Having had little luck for grayling in the clear low waters of there previous streams they encountered on the Cassiar Highway. There luck had taken a big change for the better when they stopped at Rancheria Resort for the evening.

After a late evenings dinner, the son had talked his father into walking down to the river with him and going fishing. This late evening stroll set into motion a fishing trip to remember. Cast after cast the boy hooked into some fisty grayling untel the little green nymph he had been using was about shreaded. Switching over to a mosqueto had very different results. Fewer actual hookups but the ize of the fish was definately something to brag about. The father had the boy keep two very nice fish for the mornings breakfast and as dusk was finally arriving around 2 in the morning, they headed back for the lodge.

Our experience fishing the Rancheria has been one of hot and cold. In the early spring and into June, fishing here can be fantastic. Again in the fall after the tempertures start to drop the fishing heats up untel freezeup. We have never been shut out on this small river and seldom pass by without stopping for a cast or two.

If you find yourself in the vicinity of the Alaska Hwy and feel inclined to try a little fishing, include the Rancheria River on your list. Access is plentiful from campsites and pulloffs.
